Part-Time Sales Associate Job Description

PART TIME SALES ASSOCIATE POSITION -

  • The Part Time Sales Associate reports to the Manager.

Key job responsibilities include:

  • Adhere to the take heart Code of Conduct at all times.
  • Arrive promptly for scheduled shift. We schedule people 15 minutes before we open to give time to do all opening tasks and to be ready to open the doors promptly at 11 am on weekdays and 10 am on weekends.
  • Fulfill all opening and closing to do tasks accurately.
  • Provide excellent customer service to all customers.
  • Thank and say goodbye to all customers as often as possible. Greet customers in a friendly manner in a voice volume they can hear. Wait to greet every customer when appropriate ie. if they are not looking directly at us or on their phone when they enter the shop. Hello, Welcome…whatever feels most natural for you. A smile goes a long way.
  • Approach and share with each customer at some point throughout their visit with us “Please let us know if we can help you with anything,” “Please let us know if you have any questions, or ” Please let us know if you would like to see anything closer in the jewelry case.”
  • Hold awareness for regular customers as a way for us to show our appreciation to them.
  • If you see a customer carrying numerous items in their hands please offer them a shopping basket.
  • Answer shop telephone and texts in a friendly and helpful manner.
  • Accurately ringing up customers purchases, giving accurate change if customer pays with cash and packaging purchases to best meet the needs of the customer.
  • Assist customers when they ask for help picking a gift for someone and/or they have questions about a product.
  • Restock thoroughly in morning, throughout the day and at the end of day when possible. This is very helpful for the people working the following day as they do not know what you sold as well as you do.
  • Fully participate in receiving, opening, checking in back stock, enter in inventory and display all merchandise received each day. We ask that all who are working be proactive with this task and take turns receiving boxes.
  • Dust at least two areas on cleaning checklist per shift, if times permits more than two areas are welcome, as the bulk of our cleaning happens Monday-Friday.
  • Wipe front sales counter and register screens periodically throughout the day.
  • Wipe front and back door, jewelry cases and mirrors at least once a day.
  • Pick up any trash outside in front of shop.
  • Take trash out at end of day if needed (lets do this when it is totally full) and replace bag in trash can.
  • If there is recycling to be taken out please break it down first before putting in the  recycling dumpster. If you have time, put in dumpster out back behind Hillside Farmacy.  If you don’t have time, or if its raining, please leave recycling as compacted as possible for the person who is working the following day to put out.
  • Participate in daily/weekly shop task lists on each shift.
  • Make sure there is always a batch of tissue paper separated under sales counter.
  • Organize, tidy and make sure there is a neat and legible price tag for each product for sale.
  • Walk around shop throughout the day and straighten up and be sure each item has the correct price tag near it, the price tags seem to get moved around or misplaced a lot.
  • Display products in shop in an aesthetically appealing and “easy to shop” manner, creatively and organized, with an artist or vendor work/lines all together and shown off to their full potential.
  • Participate in taking photos in the shop when/if inspired to do so of new displays, new products, interesting happenings in the shop for use on Instagram and text to Owner.
  • Read the communication notebook at the beginning of each shift and add to notebook any information you feel would be helpful for your co workers ie. a new product we received, a price change, a product we learned we can no longer get, etc…
  • Read and acknowledge Slack messages each shift worked.
  • Support new employees in their learning of take heart policies and procedures.
  • Note on inventory ordering list on back counter if an item needs to be reordered when there is approximately 10 or less of any item.
  • Check ‘Customer Request Book’ for any requested items that we have received and contact the customer to let them know.
  • Understand and adhere to shop policies regarding returns.
  • Be aware of limiting opportunities for theft. The best way to prevent theft is to interact with customers and be out on the sales floor.
  • Be mindful to not leave any customers in the shop alone at any time, this may happen briefly if we are working alone and need to go into the back room to grab a product for someone, but we want this to happen as little as possible.
  • If we have fresh flowers out and you see any dead flowers on the day you come in  please throw them away, they may have been ok the previous day, but went bad that evening.
  • Please restock pins, matches, maps, any freebies and business cards on sales counter as needed.
  • If a customer shares they are traveling that is a perfect opportunity to see if they would like an East Austin Shop Map and they are usually interested. That is a great way to tell them the area they are in East Austin, which a lot are not aware of.
  • When closing, prepare the shop for the next day fulfilling any tasks that will be helpful for the opener/team the following morning ie. top off paper bags, fill freebies on sales counter, straighten sales counter, be sure there is a good bit of tissue separated for the following day, make sure kitchen is tidy and no dirty dishes in the sink, etc…
